Crisis Management Initiative (CMI) is a Finnish, independent non-profit organisation that works to resolve conflict and to build sustainable peace. CMI’s approach draws upon in-country operations and applied policy research to support decision-making and to shape policies. We seek practical solutions and innovative strategies, tools and approaches that can be used by practitioners and policymakers.

Background

CMI was founded in 2000 by its Chairman President Martti Ahtisaari. The headquarters of the organisation are in Helsinki, Finland.

  • Engages in capacity building among the international community in conflict prevention, resolution and transformation
  • Advocates solutions for security
  • Uses comprehensive approaches that bind together security and development, good governance, justice and reconciliation

CMI's work is divided into four thematic clusters which are Peace Mediation & Dialogue; Foresight for Peace & Security; Comprehensive Crisis Management; Post War state-building and also the Martti Ahtisaari Rapid Reaction Facility.
