We can forgive but we cannot forget - CMI honors International Women’s Day

On this International Women’s Day, CMI stands with others to call for the end of violence against women.

In West Africa, different forms of gender-based violence remain alarmingly high. We work in the region to increase the awareness and expertise on these issues.

Life goes on – yet everything has changed

What happens after a war in a country? In our blog, CMI’s expert Elisa Tarnaala shares her experiences from Liberia.

“Many women told us they could forgive the perpetrators but they would not forget. But the conversation really started when we enquired about what had changed, and how violence manifests itself today. Nothing had changed and everything had changed”, she writes.

A practical toolkit for mediators to address gender-based violence

Our work together with WANEP aims to prepare mediators to be willing and capable to address gender-based violence before, during and after conflicts to help survivors and build more peaceful societies. To practically support this, a toolkit on gender-sensitised mediation will be published in April 2013.
