CMI begins collaboration with Aalto University (28.1.2010)
CMI has begun collaborating with Aalto University’s School of Art and Design and School of Science and Technology to create a web portal on how statebuilding can be assisted by modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The portal is a part of CMI’s Governance Out of a Box project, a concept and initiative that seeks ways to support governments of post-conflict states to revive and reconstruct some of the key functions of their state administration. The portal aims to offer international actors and national governments recovering from crisis examples and ideas how to support the revival of key state functions and provision of basic services with ICT, and encourage sharing of information, experiences and ideas of usage of ICTs in statebuilding.
The visual appearance and technical realization of the portal will be designed by researchers from the Department of Media at the School of Art and Design, whereas researchers from the School of Science and Technology will provide expertise in analyzing a few preselected cases where technological solutions can be used to support the setting up functions and services of public administration. The web portal is expected to open by late March 2010.
