Yasar Qatarneh - Senior Project Manager

Dr Yasar Qatarneh is the Senior Project Manager of the "Foresight for Conflict Prevention in the Middle East” project. He directs and manages the overall development of the project, and coordinates its implementation with the project partners, local stakeholders, and funders. Dr Qatarneh is an expert in the fields of conflict, security, cooperation, and Middle East politics, with nearly ten years’ experience in research and analysis as well as fundraising and management.

 

 

Prior to joining Crisis Management Initiative, he founded the Third Way Institute in Amman in 2009; he also served for six years as Director of the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, and was formerly a research fellow at the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan from 2001-2003. Dr Qatarneh has presented numerous papers and lectures at conferences on the national, regional, and international levels, addressing issues of contemporary concern including regional security, defense and foreign policy, and civil-military relations.  During his tenure at the RCCP, he published extensively on the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and its role in conflict prevention, and initiated the website and online bulletin Conflict INFOCUS, which brings together writers on conflict prevention issues from various backgrounds and perspectives.  Since its inception, Conflict INFOCUS has attracted an extensive and diverse readership.  Dr Qatarneh’s research has been featured in various major media, including CNN International, Al-Jazeera, and the World Policy Journal.  He has also provided consulting services to prominent companies including Morgan Stanley, T. Rowe Price International, UBS Investment Bank, and Capital International.

Dr Qatarneh received his Ph.D. in War Studies from King’s College, London, with a dissertation on “Structural Dynamics and Bargaining Strategies: American Diplomacy toward Egypt and Israel, 1963-1967”.  He also holds an M.A. in Middle East Politics from the University of Exeter, England, and a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Jordan, Amman.
